Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
