Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then located numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A senior political figure commented the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
